Episode 8 - Pilar Modeling Agency/Back to School

Modeling is hard work, and takes a lot of time, energy, and tenacity. You can see
how much effort goes into one runway show! My advice for all the aspiring models out
there is this: number one, you need tough skin. I’ve had so many doors slammed in
my face because I wasn’t black enough to be a black model. I wasn’t white enough,
obviously, to be a white model. My hair was too long, my hair was too short, my hips
were too big, I had too much butt, I didn’t have enough… There’s an excuse for everything.
So you really have to have tough skin.
But it's most important to remember this: God says that we’re beautifully and wonderfully
made. And so you have to understand that, no matter what people say about you, you’re
beautiful. You are wonderfully made, in every aspect of thinking about yourself, when
you look in the mirror. Really getting into your heart and mind that you’re beautifully
and wonderfully created. And if you really want to do something in life, then no one
can stop you. So if modeling is something that a young man or a young lady wants to
pursue, there are many different types of modeling: runway, print, editorial, catalogue,
etc. I say: go for it. And don’t let anyone change your mind. But if you want change
your mind, that’s fine, just don’t quit.
This was my first time walking down a runway in a bit, and it was so good to be back!
It feels so wonderful. It’s great, it’s so energizing, it’s live, and it’s real. It’s
feeling the thump of the music just going, and the crowd just screaming, and knowing
you can connect with anyone you want to in the audience. It’s a lot of fun. Just knowing
you’re doing your thing and working it, it’s very live. I don’t think there’s anything
like it. I’m not a singer, but I can imagine it’s like that. Just giving out energy
and getting it back from people. It’s a really good feeling.
I'm glad I had the chance to walk the runway, and I was also glad I was in shape for
the challenge, both physically and mentally. My secret to staying in shape isn’t just
one trick, it’s a multitude of things. It’s eating right, and eating a lot of live
foods. You really are what you eat. So I always think, “if I want to live healthy
then I should eat live foods.” It’s also finding balance in your life. Not to become
or remain too stressed out. I think that people should live a very full life. Almost
as if today was your last day. If you know you couldn’t fail at anything, what would
you try? So, I think people should live well and abundantly. I think you should love
as much as you can. I think you should spread love around as much as you can. Not
sex, but love. I think you should love deep, and love strong, and laugh as much as
you can, and laugh hard. I think having joy is having strength. And you can really
see in someone’s spirit if they’re full of joy or discontentment. You can tell if
they’re a happy person, or if they’re stressed out. It’s in their aura. You can feel
the energy. And I think just living clear, living, laughing, love. I think that’s
the real secret. And rest. You need to get your rest.
