Best Ink 3 contestant Amy Zager describes her personal ink as "colorful and illustrative." One of her favorite pieces is a large octopus spanning her rear, which she says has no symbolism or story behind it. Explains Amy: "It's just a really cool, really big tattoo, done by a good friend and coworker of mine, and it gives me an excuse to take off my pants to show it off."
Amy's left arm contains pieces that tell stories about herself or her family, including a lion that was a present from herself for her 18th birthday; a wolf skull with a blue rose to honor loyalty; and a columbine flower from an annual vacation she takes with her parents to Colorado.
The tree containing butterflies and glowing cocoons on her upper arm is the start of what will be a full sleeve. It's based on a print she made in high school to "illustrate the idea of how we consider the most beautiful stage of a butterfly to be right before its death in contrast with how our society treats our grandparents and the elderly."
Among the tattoos not shown in these pictures: a naked chic with tigers, a little zombie dog and "Ob-la-di" and "Ob-la-da" tattooed across her feet. "I got it as a college graduation present to myself," she says. "And every time I look down it makes me smile." It makes us smile, too.
