1-Month-Old Baby Mysteriously Found Abandoned On Side Of Road In Car Seat Stuffed With Cash

"We don't know why she did what she did."

A church group discovered a baby in a car seat abandoned on the side of a hot Oklahoma City highway and saved his life. The youth group was driving down the interstate on Sunday when they spotted the car seat, thinking it may be a doll at first, according to KFOR. FOX News reports that $5,500 in cash, a social security card and a birth certificate was stuffed into that car seat.

Ken Angel, a pastor whose group spotted the child, credited God for the discovery.

"I feel like God used our youth group to save someone's life Saturday because we're here on Earth to fulfill a redemptive purpose," he said. "God stepped in."

Police believe the baby is about 1 month old. They think that he couldn’t have been out in the 91 degree heat more than 30 minutes, because he wasn’t sweating. A nearby hospital evaluated the baby, and determined him to be healthy. The mother of the child has been identified, located and evaluated at a hospital. Names are not being released.

"We don't know why she did what she did ... but people do the strangest things sometimes," Sgt. Gary Knight said. "I don't recall seeing a case like this where a baby was just left on the shoulder of a highway. This could have had a very tragic ending."

The child has been placed in DHS custody, according to News9.

One of the church group members created a Facebook post about the discovery of the baby on the side of the highway.

“Can you even imagine,” the woman wrote on Facebook. “This little guy could have died out there, I sure hope it was not done on purpose for that reason.”

That post has since been shared thousands of times.
