A father from Florida was found dead inside his burning car in North Lauderdale last week, and so far two people have been charged with his murder.
Darren Butler, 24, was found dead at 5 a.m. on November 14 inside a car he bought just one month prior.
“When the flames were extinguished by North Lauderdale Fire Rescue, the 27-year-old’s body was discovered in the car,” Joy Oglesby, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff’s Office told the Sun-Sentinel. According to that outlet, Butler became a father to a baby girl three months ago.
On Saturday, police arrested Rougiena Deriveire, 18.
Then, on Tuesday another arrest was made when Johntavis McCoe, 26 was taken into custody.
Both suspects have been charged with first-degree murder, according to People.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has stated that they are not sure if it was the fire that killed him. Gunshots were reportedly heard by neighbors before the fire was spotted. A motive has not yet been revealed in Butler’s murder. Also unclear is whether Butler knew either of his alleged killers. No information has been released about how the two suspects know each other, either.
It is unclear at this time if either Deriveire or McCoe have lawyers that can speak on their behalf.
