Arrests Made In Connection To Deadly Halloween Party Where Two Were Killed
Police say the men helped the shooter who injured five and killed two.
Halloween is one of most fun holidays of the year, but it can also be one of the most dangerous. As a friend once cautioned, Halloween is when the criminals are allowed to wear masks. Sadly, a costume party this weekend in Newburgh, New York ended in bloodshed with the death of two young woman, and five others injured.
Police were called to the apartment building where the party occurred Saturday night, sometime after midnight. The building hosts monthly parties and Saturday’s event drew a particularly large crowd. A fight and possible robbery led to the shooting. When it was over seven had been shot, two of whom died from their injuries. Authorities identified the deceased as Omani Free, 18 (pictured), a high school senior, and Tabitha Cruz, 20.
Earlier today, police arrested two people they say played a part in the incident. Rainier Hamilton, 21, and Tyson Oliveria, 20, were both charged with tampering with physical evidence. Hamilton is also facing a charge for criminal possession of a weapon. Neither suspect, however, is considered to be the actual gunman but that they “assisted the shooter immediately following the incident.”
