Cop's Wife Fakes Burglary And Tries To Blame Black Lives Matter
Police say money troubles led to the hoax.
Maria Daly took to social media the day after her house was robbed of $10,000 worth of jewelry and vandalized with apparent Black Lives Matter graffiti. “We woke up to not only our house being robbed while we were sleeping, but to see this hatred for no reason” she wrote on Facebook. Her husband, Daniel Daly, is an officer in the Millbury, Massachusetts police department. However, Dan’s fellow officer’s investigating the incident didn’t think members of the protest movement had anything to do with it. They thought the whole thing had been faked by Maria Daly herself.
Millbury Police Chief Donald Desorey told local news station WCSH, “I felt that there was more to the story than basically met to the naked eye.” Not only is Dan a cop, the Daly’s pet dog is part of the department’s K-9 unit, making their house a pretty challenging prospect for breaking and entering. Facing mounting pressure, Maria eventually confessed to faking their entire incident without her husband’s knowledge.
Maria Daly was arrested and charged with filing a false police report and misleading a police investigation. Apparently money troubles are to blame. “I know something like this is devastating on the family,” said Chief Desorey.” “I have empathy for the family and the defendant as well - I’m very familiar with her, and it is unfortunate set of circumstances that has taken place.”
