Eminem's Ex-Wife On Probation After Attempting Suicide By Driving Into A Pole
"'Yes, I drank, yes I took pills and I hit the gas and aimed for a pole."
Kim Mathers, the ex-wife of rapper Eminem, was put on probation after a DUI incident during which she attempted to kill herself by driving into a pole. Following the incident, Mathers paid a $900 fine and will be monitored for the next 12 months.
The incident occurred in October 2015. Mathers had publicly discussed how the crash was an attempt to take her own life:
"It was intentional," Kim told Detroit's Channel 995 radio show Mojo in the Morning back in May.
"I never expected to make it out alive," she said, adding that she had "been clean for 10 years." Kim's Cadillac Escalade was smashed into a pole after flipping upside down. Mathers was intoxicated at the time. "Yes, I drank, yes I took pills and I hit the gas and aimed for a pole," she admitted.
Mathers escaped from court with a rather light sentence. She will be required to undergo random alcohol and drug testing for the next year.
Many will remember that Kim, back in the late 90's and early 2000's, was the subject of many of the Detroit rapper's tracks — as was their daughter Hailie Mathers. It's hard not to wonder if her depiction in the media contributed to her breakdown.
