Former NBA Player Brandon Roy Shot While Protecting Children

He was an innocent bystander in a gang-related shooting. Two men opened fire as Roy shielded children from the bullets.

Former NBA player Brandon Roy was injured in a weekend shooting while protecting children.

USA Today reported that Roy was shot in the leg while standing outside his grandmother's house in Los Angeles County. According to Sporting News, Roy was an innocent bystander in what was determined to be a gang-related shooting. The shooting took place at an outdoor gathering and USA Today reported that Roy shielded children during the shooting.

Two people allegedly opened fire and Roy was one of four people who suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds. All were taken to a local hospital and released.

Roy was treated in Southern California. He is now recovering in his home state of Washington, where he currently works as the head basketball coach at Nathan Hale High School in Seattle. He is expected to make a full recovery.
