July is all about crimes of passion at Oxygen.com. We are showcasing the most compelling cases during our Crimes of Passion Month. Get ready, because this themed month is loaded with drama!

Anatomy of a Love Triangle

An ongoing franchise throughout the month, 'Anatomy of a Love Triangle' gives Oxygen readers the chance to read up on some of the most scandalous love triangles and murders as we recap our best crimes of passions from Snapped. You can read about Erin and Eric McLean’s marriage and how Erin’s affair with a teen she met while interning at a high school led to murder. And then there’s the story of Sarah Kolb, a teenager who finally felt like she fit in when she became respected within a group of juggalos. But then, new girl Adrianne Reynolds showed up and Sarah was both attracted to her and threatened by her so she killed and dismembered her. We recount how a reporter and choir director tried to kill a man so he could be with his wife, Lisa Whedbee. Another story pulled from the Snapped archives is one of a husband who kills his wife for his transgender lover. Oh, and the insurance money too. Also, we went into the grim details of how a woman manipulated her teenage children to kill her husband and their step-dad.

The 7 Most Notorious Crimes Of Passion

We give a rundown of the most well known crimes of passion. Some of these crimes were so intense they made national headlines, like when Lorena Bobbitt cut off part of her husband’s penis and threw it out on the side of a road. Or, when Joey Buttafuoco, an auto body shop owner, ended his affair with teenage Amy Fisher who in turn shot his wife. Other crimes involved the tragic loss of talented stars, killed by those close to them. Actor and comedian Phil Hartman was shot to death by his troubled wife. Marvin Gaye was also murdered, by his own jealous father.

Then & Now: Robert Chambers Jr., the "Preppy Murderer"

In the 1980s, Robert Chambers Jr. was arrested for the murder of 18-year-old Jennifer Levin, whose body was discovered in Central Park, strangled and bruised. Robert, dubbed the “Preppy Murderer” because of his privileged upbringing and prep school past claimed that Jennifer’s death was an accident caused by consensual “rough sex” in the park. He was sentenced to jail for manslaughter. Oxygen has an update on what the “Preppy Murderer” is up to now.

6 Gripping Movies About Crimes Of Passion

Looking to watch some gripping dramatizations of real life crimes? These six films reenact some of the most heated cases. To Die For is based on the Pamela Smart trial and it stars Nicole Kidman as Pamela, who worked as a media coordinator at a high school where she had an affair with 15-year-old Billy Flynn. Allegedly, she convinced the boy to kill her husband. In Bully, a group of Florida teens team up to kill their friend (and lover) because they are sick of his abuse.

Then & Now: Lorena Bobbitt

Lorena and her then husband John Wayne made international headlines in 1993 after Lorena cut off part of John Wayne’s penis while he slept. She claimed she did it because she was abused by John Wayne for years. Although the penis was reattached, how has the ex-couple dealt with the media attention of their incident? We’ll give an update. Spoiler: one of them ended up working in porn.

Songs Inspired By Crimes Of Passion

True crime can be a musical genre! Want a Crimes Of Passion playlist? We got you. The Killers' debut album Hot Fuss features the song "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine," inspired by the death of Jennifer Levin in 1986. The “Preppy Murderer” Robert Chambers Jr. claimed she died after consensual “rough sex” in the park. Violent Femmes’ "Country Death Song," is inspired by an 1862 newspaper about a father who threw his own daughter in a well before hanging himself in a barn.

We hope we keep you enticed this July, and stay tuned for upcoming themed months.
