Two men are in custody after a robbery of a Texas mall on Sunday turned into a bloody shootout, leaving one person dead, police said.
The two men had just robbed a San Antonio mall jewelry store when a good Samaritan tried to stop them, the Associated Press reported. One of the robbers responded by shooting him fatally. A witness to this responded by using his concealed handgun to shoot one of the robbers.
The suspect who wasn’t shot fled the scene, shooting at witnesses as he went by and injuring one man and one woman. He was finally arrested Sunday night after he crashed his car during his escape.
In addition to the wounded suspect and the witnesses who were shot at, responders also took a woman with chest pains and a pregnant woman who said she had labor pains to the hospital.
The suspect who was shot at is currently in critical condition, police said. The two witnesses who survived the shooting have non-life threatening injuries.
Police have not released the names of the two suspects or their victims. Both suspects are facing a capital murder charge and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
