What sounded like a childhood accident took the life of 2-year-old Jaxson Love.
According to CBS Sacramento, the toddler died after saying he was in a "trampoline accident," and now, his stepmother is facing charges, including child abuse resulting in his death.
Last week, Love was with his father and told his mother, Brittany Gonzales, that he had a trampoline mishap. “He told me that basically, he had a trampoline accident. He fell but was completely fine. Woke up in the morning, which would be Wednesday morning, and he was fine then, I guess at 12 o’clock, he had a bath and I guess he took a nap afterward and dad, I guess went out and did some errands and left the baby with his wife,” she said.
Later that day, the father came home to find the child unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital where doctors found internal bleeding and broken ribs. He was placed on life support but later died.
“I just want justice for Jaxson. He deserves it. I want to have some peace of mind of what happened and to make sure that this doesn’t happen to anybody else’s kid, ever,” the mother added to CBS.
Gonzales and the father shared custody of the child.
The stepmother, Chalsey Maynard, has been arrested by Stockton, California police. She faces charges of child abuse endangerment, infliction of great bodily injury, corporal injury to a child and child abuse resulting in death.
