A teen staffer at a Colorado camp woke up to a "crunching sound," with his head inside the mouth of the black bear on Sunday.
The 19-year-old, identified only as Dylan in news reports, punched and hit the bear as it tried to pull him out of his sleeping bag. He also poked it in the eye. Dylan was sleeping outside at Glacier View Ranch, northwest of Boulder, when he was attacked. He teaches wilderness survival at the Christian camp.
"The crunching noise, I guess, was the teeth scraping against the skull as it dug in,"Dylan told KMGH-TV.
Dylan said the bear dragged him 10 to 12-feet away before he was able to get away.
"When it was dragging me, that was the slowest part. It felt like it went forever,” he told Denver7.
Dylan was taken to a hospital, treated and released.
