Chicago police are charging two young teenagers with participating in the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl—a sexual assault that was live streamed on Facebook.
On Saturday, a 14-year-old was arrested on charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault, manufacturing of child pornography and dissemination of child pornography for the March 19 attack, The Washington Post reported. Police are still seeking the other identified subject, a 15-year-old boy.
The names of both juvenile suspects were not released by police.
Police said five or six men in total participated in the sexual assault of the teen girl, and while they did not specify how many suspects would be charged, they said one of the alleged rapists was an adult, reported the Associated Press.
Commander Brendan Deenihan said in a news conference that the victim was “lured” into the home of one of the suspects on Chicago’s West Side.
“From there, she was not allowed to leave and she didn’t consent to what occurred,” Deenihan said, adding that the girl was threatened by the men who participated in the sexual assault.
There were multiple cell phone videos of the attack, and not just the Facebook live stream, Deenihan added.
The victim is traumatized and has not returned to the West Side, where she also lives, police said at the news conference. Last month, the girl’s mother told the Associated Press that her daughter had received bullying and death threats after the attack.
“People are really making fun of the victim and (making) just a lot of off-color comments about what’s occurred,” Deenihan said.
About 40 people saw the video as it was being broadcast on Facebook, police alleged. None of them reportedly called police.
