Even on the easiest of days, police put their lives on the line. This past Saturday in New York City, cops were called to downtown Brooklyn after responding to a call about a flock of bikers on street bikes and ATVs causing a disturbance near the on-ramp to the Brooklyn Bridge. Two NYPD scooter patrolmen arrived on the scene as a phalanx of street bikers came roaring around the corner. One of the officers fell off his scooter at which point a man in an orange ATV, unable to get out of the way, ran him over. Rather than stop and see if the officer was OK, the man sped away.
The officer and his partner, who was also hurt in the accident, were taken to New York Methodist Hospital. Fortunately neither one sustained any life-threatening injuries. Brooklyn isn't exactly the type of place where a bright orange ATV blends in to the surrounding area. The suspect was apprehended and arrested a short time later. The suspect’s name and his actual criminal charges have yet to be released.
