Woman Confronts “Butthole” Kids Who Were Being Cruel In Target

The children were laughing at and trying to take pictures of a disfigured cashier with Snapchat filters to send to their friends.

Southern mom Mary Katherine Backstorm posted a Facebook video on June 15 about an experience she had in Target. She was in a checkout line at when she noticed a young boy and girl -  ages 11 or 12 - giggling at the cashier. Backstorm said the cashier had clearly suffered a "very devastating accident and cranial reconstructive surgery." He had staples in his head and a drooping eyelid. The children "were getting their cell phones out and trying to take pictures of him with Snapchat filters" to text to their friends.

Backstrom said she is not a confrontation person, but she decided that she had to be the adult in this situation. She told the two kids they were being "very cruel" to that man.

"In that moment I realized, 'Yes, yes, I'm an adult. I can do this. I can take control of the situation and teach them a lesson.'"

The children apologized, and Backstorm waited with them for a one of their mothers to show up. Nervous that the parent would react defensively, Backstrom was pleasantly surprised to get a thankful reaction.

“I just wanted to say to the lady whose kid just acted like a complete butthole in Target that you're a really good mom. Kids can be buttholes some time. If my kids are ever in Target being buttholes or bullies or making fun of people, I hope you do the same thing. It's hard to hear criticisms from other parents or hear your kids are acting contrary to how you know you've raised them, but that's part of them growing up. We all need to be keeping an eye on each other and each other's kids.”
