A day after a class-action lawsuit was brought against Harvey Weinstein for sexual abuse allegations, one of Hollywood's biggest stars revealed that the film mogul was like a father figure to her. Jennifer Lawrence told The Hollywood Reporter that she never knew Weinstein was a predator.
"I didn't know that he was a rapist," she said.
In the interview with Oprah, Lawrence said Weinstein was known as a tough businessman.
"A tough guy, a brute, a tough guy to negotiate with," she described. She said their relationship was paternal and never sexual.
"Just speaking for myself, I had known him since I was 20, and he had only ever been nice to me — except for the moments that he wasn't, and then I called him an asshole, and we moved on. He was paternal to me."
Lawrence won an Oscar for the Weinstein-produced movie "Silver Linings Playbook" in 2013.
Weinstein has been accused by numerous women of sexual abuse, ranging from leveraging his position as the head of The Weinstein Company to hit on actresses to sexual assault.
"So I needed a moment to process everything because I thought I knew this guy, and then he's being accused of rape," said Lawrence. "I think everybody needed to [process it]. Everybody needs to deal with this in their own way; everybody needs to heal."
In the same interview, Lawrence said that she has faced sexual harassment in Hollywood by both men and women. The Oscar-winner said that she was once asked to drop 15 pounds by a female producer within two weeks.
"And I had to do a nude lineup. It was abusive," she said.
Lawrence continued, "I don't know a woman who hasn't been touched by some sort of abuse. I'm sad by the women's stories, but I'm excited by the change that's going to come from it."
