Last week, Matt Lauer, the popular morning anchor of "Today" for two decades, was fired by NBC News after a sexual misconduct allegation came to light. That firing kicked off numerous other stories accusing Lauer of sexually harassing multiple women. And now, his wife Annette Roque is reportedly in hiding.
A source told the New York Post that the former model has hunkered down in the couple’s home in the Hamptons. She and their 14-year-old daughter, one of the couple's three children, were reportedly seen just outside their home over the weekend.
Sexual harassment and misconduct allegations against Lauer run the gamut. Variety reported that Lauer “gave a colleague a sex toy” and that he even “had a button under his desk” which allowed him to lock his door without getting up so that he could have sexual relations in the privacy of his own office.
Last week, Lauer addressed the allegations and rumors and apologized in a statement which said, in part, “Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed. I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly.”
According to Fox News, employees at a shop near the couple’s home refer to Roque as “a sad wife.” They said that they never see the pair together.
A Page Six story claims that Roque is not in the Hamptons but instead in the Netherlands, where Roque is originally from.
A source told Page Six, “Annette has taken their two younger kids out of school and is believed to have left the US and gone to her family in her native country.”
Lauer and Roque have been married for 20 years.
