How has being a member of the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency changed your life?
Being part of the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency has changed my life in several ways. The show has been a learning experience as well as a growing experience. Since coming out to my mother just several months before the show, to now proclaiming my identity to now the world, this in itself is a huge step, that carries enormous vulnerability, and responsibility. The show has given Shaun and myself a platform I feel to do good, and represent a minority that needs a voice every now and then. Not to take a reality show too seriously but I feel a bigger purpose and power guiding us through each step of our lives, whether those steps be modeling, acting, or just setting forth new directions for those looking up to us, I feel a humbling and honoring respect for all the opportunities I’ve been given through this agency.
Do you get recognized when you go out?
I do get recognized, but seriously, it comes with the territory. This is an industry after all that looks at you.
What does your family/hometown think about your new status?
Well…as far as I know my hometown is unaware about any “status change.” to them I’m sure that I’m still that boy, who was once good in track, and liked the acting stage, but when they do catch wind of what’s really going on (because eventually it will hit rural North Dakota) I’m not sure what its true authentic response will be. I just hope that minds are opened and hearts are softened. Most individuals there know about my prior modeling past, but the gay thing is a whole new topic (not like they didn’t already know, I mean seriously) but I’m sure it will ruffle a few feathers here and there, but I feel like that is what I’m here to do, open the box on the reality of life and those affected by it, and give it power. My family is very supportive of the modeling yet cautious about the gay aspect. I understand because my family sees the bigotry and hate in the world, and they do not want me getting hurt. To quote India Arie “I don’t know what is going to happen, that’s all right with me, I open up my arms, and I embrace the mystery.” My life has changed and is still changing, but I accept and welcome the direction of change, because it will only make me stronger and wiser for me.
After your first big paycheck what did you buy?
Nothing I used it to help pay off credit cards… yes I’m trying to be responsible!
Besides Janice, who’s your fashion icon?
Love me some Naomi, her presence is so demanding you can’t help but stare in awe, she knows how to W.O.R.K!
Who are your favorite designers/photographers?
Any designer/photographer that pushes the envelope is hot in my eyes, I like doing the same in my fashion choices so those that follow that pattern I’m watching you.
How do you stay in shape? Describe your diet/exercise routine.
Ok… some think it’s all to do with “genes” and ,”you’re so lucky” yada yada yada, listen let me tell ya something, it’s a lot of freakin hard work, but if done right its all worth it. I basically work out a couple hours a day at least 4 days weekly. A mix of heavy lifting with light, and quality cardio keeps things right. My diet is a balanced one, making sure to get plenty of fiber and quality carbs, and a good amount of protein daily.
What song makes you want to strut your stuff?
My gays will know this but straights, sorry, look it up. Jimmy James Fashionista.
What’s playing on your iPod right now?
Well since I had to look up how to spell Fashionista that is what is playing now!!! AND STRUT!
What’s your definition of sexy?
Having the utmost confidence in one’s self, that is sexy to me!
I’m originally from a small town in North Dakota, which the total population is less than 350. I grew up with two brothers, living in the country and having the time of my life—yet it took me years later to realize that. My family still lives there, older brother is married with two girls and younger brother is in college. My mother and father still live and work in the town I grew up in. I left that town when I was 18 years old and basically started a whole new chapter in my life. I did my college but took the 2nd semester off to pursue an opportunity in modeling. I moved to Miami and modeled for a few months and then to NYC, but ended it soon to go back to ND and find myself and finish my education. After getting my degree I moved to Florida to work and live. This is where I met Shaun and the second chapter of my life begun.
