On the premiere of My Big Fat Revenge, we met Tamar. The Bronx native was tired of her mother constantly comparing her to her slimmer sister. On top of that, Tamar wanted to be able to keep up with her young daughter, and knew it was only going to get harder when she hit her fast approaching 30th birthday. So, she hit the gym hard for three months, shedding almost 50 pounds and gaining a new sense of self. Catch up with Tamar in this Q&A to find out where she stands with her mother now, and how getting 'Revenge' has changed her life for the better.
How has your life changed since being on ‘My Big Fat Revenge?’
It's changed drastically. I'm able to take any challenge that comes my way now. I don’t let anything deter me because everything happens for a reason.
How is your relationship with your family going?
It's better. As human beings we have a lot of growing to do, but I'm talking to my mother. I’m actually at her house right now. We have our days where we don’t see eye to eye, but she respects that I’m still working out and I’m not going back. I’m growing too. My family respects my grind. My daughter loves me; she’s my fan. And Mark is doing even better than me with the weight loss!
What advice would you give to women who are bullied for their weight?
My best advice is love thyself. Look in the mirror and keep telling yourself, "I am strong, I am beautiful, I am wonderful, and no one can take that from me."
What do you do to keep up with your weight loss and stay in shape?
I continue to work out. It’s my sanity and my stress reliever. Right now I’m loving myself. I’m aware and awakened of how I used to feel. I’m gonna try body building! I could be 10th place, I don’t care. I set my goals high now.
Tune into 'My Big Fat Revenge' Tuesdays at 9/8c.
