When I was named the winner, I literally could not believe it.
Entering the final challenge, I was extremely nervous. Jon and Alexis were my biggest competitors from the beginning and they do fantastic tattoos every week, but it felt amazing knowing that I made it to the end. I was so honored to stand with Alexis and Jon and I'm proud to have been able to work alongside them.
When I heard that we were creating three tattoos for the challenge instead of one, I was kinda stoked, but I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me. I was also a little shocked when my previous skins came back for another one of my tattoos, but I was stoked that they wanted more work from me.
Knowing what I know now, if I could go back I would have played a bit more competitively. The politics in voting were brutal and the flash challenge advantages were pretty helpful. But at the end of this competition, I learned that patience and hard work can pay off. I have made a conscience effort to be a more positive person in recent years and look where it has brought me! I'm honored, humbled, and stoked beyond belief. I am grateful for my friend's and family's support.
When I was named the winner, I literally could not believe it. It was so surreal. I hadn't felt that much relief over anything in my whole life. I have been working really hard at this for years and I've had a lot happen in the past two years. This was finally something I could be very proud of and take home to my wife.
I am SO grateful for my clientele, friends, and family. The fast paced, high intensity atmosphere of the show really made me realize just how nice life is at my shop, MD Tattoo Studio. I get to work at a comfortable pace and create my own custom artwork for my clients. After getting used to the time limits of the challenges, I think I'm a bit faster at tattooing now. I'm reminded that it's okay to slow down and take my time, which is so nice. I am stoked that now I have some new amazing friends from other corners of the country. I've already hung out with Jon and Alexis since the show and even did a guest spot at Roman's new shop! I think we will all be pals forever. We experienced a crazy time together, one that none of us will ever forget. I'm grateful for that. I'm grateful that I get to make art for a living.
Best Ink only reinforced my desire to work even harder to be the best tattoo artist that I can be. Joe really pushed us and it helped a lot. I'm forever thankful for that.
