While models are undoubtedly glam when they’re all dolled up for their photo shoots and runway shows, it's that off-duty, je ne sais quoi catwalker style that we’re all obsessed with. Our supermodel coaches Coco, Karolina and Naomi look amazing off the runway in their own duds. So do style icons like Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda Kerr and indisputable It Girl Alexa Chung are top of mind, too. So let’s look to the aspiring model contestants on “The Face” to break it down for us, as they showed up for the kick off special airing on Tuesday, February 5 at 9pm ET/PT in their bonafide off-duty best.
REALLY BIG HEELS
Major ones in the form of wedges, stacked heel platforms, stilettos, booties, sandals, you name it. And in a range of colors, although most models opt for the classic New York black.
BUT BRING FLATS TO CHANGE INTO
And if you forget your ballet slippers or printed flip flops, there's always the option to go sans shoes.
They give an aura of mystery, look movie star-ish and are a chic way to temper any after-effects of late night clubbing with Leonardo DiCaprio or bottle service-favoring investment bankers.
Let's break this down here.
1. Effortless layers: A denim shirt worn as a jacket with a scarf (nicely done, Jocelyn) or a distressed cropped jean jacket over a body-con dress (score, Brittany) and finally the trusty leather moto-jacket (check, Aleksandra). It looks like you "just threw this on."
2. Short shorts: Kimberly, Ebony, Aleksandra again, Sandra and Ashley know that hot pants are the best way to show off those long supermodel legs. And the shorter, the better.
3. Liquid leggings (or any tight trousers, really): Like booty shorts, but with fabric. Margaux's shimmery style is more breathable than the other model leggings of choice (that would be leather).
4. Camo: It's like the tough girl alternative to skinny jeans or black leggings and it really does go with everything, as Madeleine and Sandra know.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T FORGET YOUR READING MATERIAL
It can get boring backstage and we hear Fifty Shades of Grey is quite popular.
