Looking for some simple ways to make sure your diet doesn't completely derail during the holidays? Here are four suggestions for injecting a little balance -- and fun -- into your winter wellness plan.
If you feel like you're slipping into a food coma in front of the TV, gather some people for a fun game. Ping-Pong, hacky sack, and Frisbee are all easy to do with a group of friends, and you'll probably burn off as many calories laughing as you will exercising.
Remember when you were a kid and you loved sliding -- down a slip-n-slide, a snowy hill, or just a plain old slide in the playground. This winter, head outdoors for a fun way to burn calories while sledding. You won't even notice getting a workout by walking up the hill and rolling around in the snow. And you could even start a snowball fight -- that counts as a bicep and tricep workout, right?!
When you're at a party and the rich holiday food is calling out to you, here's an easy way to eat while not derailing your diet. Choose a small plate to load up on bites of your favorite foods. This way, you can still sample without overindulging -- but don't go back for seconds!
It's tempting to spend more time at the office during the winter months, when you’re not tempted by the beautiful weather to spend your breaks walking around. To make sure you're not going completely sedentary at work, be sure to take little breaks throughout the day, even if it's to get a glass of water or just stretch your legs. And get the most of your office-friendly workouts by taking the stairs, instead of the elevator, whenever possible.
