5 Adventurous Girlfriend Getaways

Want to get away with the girls this summer (and we mean far far away)?  Here are five adventurous -- and inexpensive -- ways to truly escape with the ladies this year!

1. Stargazing at El Cosmico

Camping doesn't have to be dirty. Witness El Cosmico, a hotel and campground in Marfa, Texas that offers shelter in tents, tepees or trailers. Whichever you choose, you'll have access to the lobby containing a bath house and a communal kitchen as well as wine, snacks and a library of books. Is there any better way to bond with the girls than soaking in a wood-fired hot tub or catching a free sunset concert by indie bands like The Succulents or Allah-Las? Actually...yes! Because gazing at the impressive canopy of stars lighting up the night sky is the real draw at this high plains desert camp.  Rates run from $75 to $170. For more info, visit El Cosmico's Web site.
2. Escape to a Spa

What happens at The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa doesn't necessarily need to stay at The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa. Far away from the sanitized debauchery of the Strip, you and your closest girlfriends can indulge in spa services until your heart is content, including massages (Swedish, Moulay, etc.), body therapies and skin care treatments. When you're not at the spa or swimming in the massive pool or kayaking in the manmade lake, catch a bite to eat at The Westin's Japanese restaurant Marssa or sip on The Arabesque Lounge's signature cocktail -- The Casablanca. We feel relaxed just thinking about it! But if the getaway starts to feel snoozy, you're a stone's throw from Sin City proper. Room rates start at $109.

3. Girls' Getaway Cruises

Girls taking trips together has been a growing business in the travel industry over the last few years, and Princess Cruises offers two inexpensive deals to capitalize on the trend. Included in what they're billing as "Girls' Getaway Cruises" is the requisite lounging at the pool; access to a spa for massages and various treatments; and docking in various ports to allow for dinner and dancing. Two trips are offered: a 3-night roundtrip voyage from L.A. to Ensanada, Mexico starting at $199 and a 4 or 5-night Caribbean cruise leaving out of Ft. Lauderdale that starts at $279. Prices are based on bunking up with a BFF and don't include taxes and other fees.

4. Surfing With Girls

If you have the time (and money), consider trekking to Nicaragua for an all-girl surf camp. At $1800, Surf With Amigas is not going to be for everyone, but it may help that the fee includes a shared cabana, four meals a day, daily lessons by professional surfer Holly Beck, all beverages (including rum), and afternoon activities like yoga and horseback riding. This trip should kill at least two birds with one stone: getting in that valuable girl time and getting into tip-top shape. But the best thing about this surfing adventure may be the new amigas you're sure to make.

5. Yoga on the Beach

Want a healthy vacation? Get your down dog on against a scenic Caribbean backdrop. The Sivanada Ashram Yoga Retreat offers all-lady yoga retreat packages for beginning and advanced students right on Nassau beach in the Bahamas. Take yoga classes, meditate, snorkel, eat healthy meals, listen to world-renowned speakers, and relax for as long as you like at only $15 a day, plus $60-$116 for accommodations. Pretty cheap for paradise, a surefire tan, and total inner peace!
