Getting to Know Susie Castillo
In 2003, Susie Castillo became the third Latina ever to win the Miss USA Pageant, launching her long career in entertainment. With a strong presence and personality, Susie quickly emerged as one of television's most recognizable faces, being named to Maxim's Hot 100 list in 2008 and Complex Magazine's 50 Hottest Dominican Women in 2011 (she's both Dominican and Puerto Rican). In 2007 she became the face of Neutrogena, joining the ranks of Jennifer Garner, Gabrielle Union and Kristen Bell. Off the back of her success, Susie published a book in 2009 called Confidence is Queen... a title she clearly exudes.
She's hosted for a variety of programs, including:
- TRL (MTV)
- The Challenge Reunions (MTV)
- Road Rules Reunions (MTV)
- A variety of red carpet events, including the VMA's and MTV Movie Awards
- School Pride (NBC)
- International Superstars of Dance (NBC)
- Randy Jackson's Hit List (Co-host, radio)
- Featured on sitcoms: House of Payne, Castle, My Wife and Kids
What was your biggest OMG moment on the red carpet?
Susie: My biggest OMG moment on the red carpet was an outfit I wore for the Blender Magazine's MTV VMA party in 2003.
What was running through your head when you first heard your name winning Miss USA?
It was a combo of "HOLY SH*T" and "FINALLY!" LOL! I had worked my tail off. I couldn't wait to hug my mom too! As a single mom who raised three young women on her own, that winning moment was for her.
Who was the worst celebrity interview on TRL?
I interviewed Dax Shepard when he came on TRL to promote the film Zathura and I kept mispronouncing the name of the movie. Was it ZaTHUra or Zathura? Dax was clearly annoyed. #partyfoul
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A garbage truck driver. My mom, Carmen, said she supported it.
What's your favorite dish to cook?
My favorite is "Split Pea Superz." I’m a sucker for a warm, hearty soup. I singlehandedly kept Hale & Hearty in business when I lived in NYC.
You were chosen to model for the 2012 NFL women's apparel line... are you into football?
I was born and raised in Methuen, MA and would be burned at the stake in Boston Common if I didn't say the New England Patriots! My hubby, Matt, once told me during the heat of the football season that he felt like he was married to a 40-year-old man. I took that as a compliment.
I watch ESPN and NFL Network regularly, [...] and I've played in an NFL celebrity flag football game for the past 3 years during the Super bowl. I even caught a TD pass from NFL legend Warren Moon. Not too shabby, eh?
What's your favorite alcoholic beverage?
The fruit of the vine! Love me some good vino, but none of that boxed stuff, amigos. I'm a classy girl. Malbec's and Sauv Blanc's are my faves. I also love Rose Champagne.
