Designer 101: Nicholas Kirkwood
Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova wear some pretty amazing pieces from very major designers (both established and up-and-coming) on "The Face." We're prepping for the show, which premieres on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 9/8C, by taking a look at the designer labels you'll be seeing on our gorgeous supermodel coaches. We've covered Naomi's friend Azzedine Alaïa, the very posh Victoria Beckham and wunderkind it-designer Alexander Wang. And now we have shoes on the brain, so next up: Nicholas Kirkwood.

Who Actually Designs the Line: Nicholas Kirkwood
As Seen on "The Face:" Karolina wears his mohawk-like ruffle-trimmed platform booties in the main promos for "The Face." Drool.
Backstory: Not to be inappropriately self-referential, but this writer became obsessed with British shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood in 2008 when she (okay, I) spotted pair of chunky rocked out platforms he designed in collaboration with knitwear designer Clare Tough in an issue of Nylon magazine. And, even though I can only afford a pair of his heels at the outlets, the infatuation still burns strong.
The young designer started his line in 2005 and built up a steady following with his uniquely architectural aesthetic and notable runway collaborations with major contemporary designers, including Rodarte (those dripping candle wax sandals are works of art), Suno, Erdem, Phillip Lim and Prabal Gurung. His flagship store is in London, but he finally brought his designs Stateside, when he opened a New York outpost in the Meatpacking District in May 2012. This year, he'll be making loads of fashionistos as obsessed as I am, as he just announced a six-style men's capsule collection, which will hit stores in July.
More Celebs who wear it: The super fashion-forward set including Miranda Kerr and Kelly Rowland (who's wearing his Rodarte collaboration heels) pictured above. Also on the roster: Sarah Jessica Parker, Alexa Chung, Julianne Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Gwyneth Paltrow, Beyoncé and her sister Solange Knowles. Okay, Kanye West, you're up come July—although you can probably score a pair earlier than the rest of the male civilians.

The Investment: Alexa Chung wore a similar pair of (season one) Downton Abbey-esque Belle Epoque Mesh Embroidered Mesh Ankle Boots with an embroidered lace dress. Snag yours for $1,234 (mytheresa.com). Go bananas with day glo color and cartoon graphics for $695 (bergdorfgoodman.com) and, OMG, these are the shoe version of Karolina's booties—and they can be yours for $950 (netaporter.com).
