NBCUniversal networks like NBC, Bravo, E! and USA are joining forces to air a one-hour live benefit telethon for the victims of Sandy on Friday, Nov. 2 at 8/7c. Dubbed "Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together," the telethon will feature performances by New Jersey's Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, New York's Christina Aguilera and Billy Joel, plus Sting. Appearances will also be made by NBC's Jimmy Fallon and Brian Williams. Matt Lauer hosts.
As some of you know, Sandy hit close to home for stars of "The Face," especially host (and photographer) Nigel Barker, who lives in NYC's West Village and chronicled the devastation in real time on his Instagram and Twitter feeds. Below are some of the harrowing photos that Nigel snapped.
Though Nigel and his family were evacuated, he made himself available today to share his experiences: "No matter what steps you took to protect yourself and your loved ones there was no predicting the severity of Sandy," says Nigel via an e-mail. "I personally had to wade through waist deep water to save my car, which thank heavens I did as we had to evacuate the next day. Our West Village building was hit heavily and many of us lost a lot. Of course we have each other and were really very lucky. The bravery and courage of so many goes to show that human spirit is a force to be reckoned with too!"
"At this time of need, now more than ever we need to support each other by any means possible," continues Nigel. "Thanks in advance for your donations and prayers, together we can rebuild."
All donations to NBCUniversal's telethon will go to the American Red Cross to provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by disasters like Hurricane Sandy.
