The Movie Lounge

Trivia

An Education
In the scene where Jenny receives two dictionaries, the top dictionary is still wrapped when her father answers the door to greet David. The scene is continuous, however once David appears near the table with his presents, both dictionaries are now unwrapped on top of each other on the table.
Avatar
James Cameron originally attempted to get this film made in 1999 as his immediate follow-up to Titanic (1997). However, at the time, the special effects he wanted for the movie ran the proposed budget up to $400 million and no studio would fund the film.
Inglourious Basterds
Quentin Tarantino intended for this to be as much a war film as a spaghetti western, and considered titling the movie "Once Upon a Time in Nazi-Occupied France". He gave that title instead to the first chapter of the film.
District 9
Around six different movie endings were created during filming.
Up In The Air
There are no special privileges awarded by American Airlines for reaching 10 million miles as depicted in the movie - this was a case of artistic license by the filmmakers. However, American (like almost all major airlines with frequent flier programs) does offer special status for reaching 1 million miles.
Up
Up is the second animated film to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. The first was Beauty and the Beast (1991). However, it is the first Disney/Pixar film to do so.
Precious
Over 400 girls were interviewed from across the country for the part of Precious. Gabby Sidibe was cast a mere six weeks before the start of shooting after being forced to the audition by friends.
The Hurt Locker
The first week of shooting (during the summer in Jordan) there was a heat wave. It was so hot that the cinematographer, Barry Ackroyd, took sick with heat stroke.
A Serious Man
Sarah Gopnik repeatedly talks about going to "The Whole". The Whole is the music club in the basement of the University of Minnesota student union. It opened in the 1960s.
The Blind Side
When Quinton Aaron auditioned for the film, he was working as a security guard between acting gigs. After his audition, he left a card with his contact information and offered to work as a security guard on the set in case he wasn't selected to play Michael.
