5 Reasons Ronda Rousey Kicks Ass, In And Out Of The Octagon
Here's your next #WomanCrushWednesday!
Whether you're a fan of UFC or not, chances are you've seen Ronda Rousey's name pop up more than a few times while scrolling down your newsfeed. Here are five reasons Ronda Rousey should be your next #WomanCrushWednesday.
1. She's an absolute beast.
On Saturday night, Rousey defended her UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship title against Brazilian fighter Bethe Correia. It ended with a knockout after 34 seconds - 34 seconds. What makes this win even sweeter for Rousey is that, prior to the fight, Correia used Rousey's father's suicide to taunt her. (The icing on the cake? Rousey's words following her win: “I hope nobody brings up my family anymore when it comes to fights.")
2. She's an Olympic athlete.
After earning multiple medals at World Judo Championships as a teen, Rousey competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. She took home the bronze that year, making her the first ever American to go home with an Olympic medal in women's judo.
3. She's a trailblazer.
UFC isn't exactly synonymous with women's entertainment, but thanks to Rousey, female fighters have gained more mainstream attention than ever before. Rousey is doing what she loves and making a way for other girls and women to follow in her footsteps. What's not to love about that?
4. She's undefeated.
Not only was Rousey the first female fighter to sign with the UFC - the largest mixed martial arts league in the world - but she's never been beaten. Following Saturday's win, she's 12-0. Out of those fights, she's won 11 of them during the first round.
5. She's a total nerd.
Rousey has made no secret of her love of Pokemon and Dragonball Z. If that's not nerdy enough for you, she even plays World of Warcraft, which officially makes her the most intimidating nerd ever.
