We touched base with some of the cast members from Strut, our show about the first all-trans modeling agency, to ask them about what life is like being transgender in a society where LGBT rights have come a long way but still have so far to go. Our first question was simple: What is the one thing they wish cisgender people would understand about transgender people? Read their heartfelt responses below and watch the premiere Sept. 20 at 9/8c.
"Trans people are people. Sounds simple, most think they can wrap their head around it. Then, they get to talking and it becomes quite obvious all they see is 'other.'"
"The one thing i wish the world would understand is that I AM A HUMAN BEING, not some unheard-of phenomenon."
"The main thing I wish that the world could understand is that gender is completely different from sexuality, and that it wouldn't be such a struggle to wrap their minds around it."
"We are people too. We have flaws, dreams, love, kindness, and we make mistakes just like everybody else. We are human beings to be respected like any other."
"Trans people deserve the same love, support, and opportunities as everyone else. No matter what part of the works your from, you deserve to live free and comfortable in your own skin. I want everyone to see that being trans is just a small part of what makes someone them, so get to know the story behind someone's eyes before you judge them."
