A young trans activist raises funds to open Transgender House.
An 8-year-old trans girl has raised enough funds to open a Transgender House across the street from a convervative Baptist church. According to Pink News, Avery Jackson helped open the house, which she wanted as a haven for trans people, in her hometown of Kansas City, Missouri.
"I felt so happy and proud to be transgender," the young activist says. “I wish people weren’t afraid of transgender people. I’m not a monster. I’m not scary. I just want to be treated like every other human.”
The Westboro Baptist Church has been known for being outspoken against the LGBT community.
Avery and her family raised $11,000 through crowdfunding. After hearing about the fundraiser, developer Martin Dunn offered up $70,000 to build the house.
