9 Reasons Why Demi Lovato Is The Most Open And Honest Celebrity We May Know

How could such a private person, be such an open book?

Would you believe that Demi Lovato is only turning 24? The superstar multi-talented social media maven has been in showbiz since she was five years old, so it's no wonder it feels like she's been around forever— it's literally been majority of her life. Still, Lovato is one of the most known-unknown celebrities around. How is that true, when she's shared so much of herself? Nobody knows. But something tells me it just has to do with the need to be honest.

Here are nine reasons why Demi Lovato may be the most open celebrity we know.

1. Demi refuses to define her sexuality.

Demi Lovato is a loud and proud LGBT supporter and personally she has chosen not to define her sexuality at all. "It's something I don't think needs to have a label: As humans, It's just about a connection with someone," she said in an interview with People. "[LGBT rights are] something I'm passionate about because I get it; I grew up in Texas. Being different in Texas or in the South in general, you can be judged," she continued. "I grew up in a home where there was absolutely nothing wrong with somebody identifying as another sex or liking the same sex. People will say, 'Thank you so much for all that you do.' And my response is: It's just something that people should already be doing."

2. Demi Lovato openly talks about battling eating disorders and bipolarism

Lovato infamously had to step off tour with the Jonas Brothers in 2010 to be admitted to treatment for anorexia and bulimia. But while there, she found more clarity than she had anticipated. "I never found out until I went into treatment that I was bipolar," she told People. "Looking back, it makes sense. There were times when I was so manic, I was writing seven songs in one night and I'd be up until 5:30 in the morning." And she doesn't apologize for it, either.

3. She's obviously body positive.

When Demi Lovato goes nude, she does it wholeheartedly with honesty. When she decided to go full-frontal for Variety last year, she did it with a #nophotoshop campaign. “We live in a world where everything is touched up, even pictures that people post on Instagram now. So I wanted to put it out there, the opposite of what people are kind of expecting from me right now." She asks that all publications maintain this honesty (at least for her) when she poses for them. And I mean, look at her body. Why would she need it? (Although that's besides the point, I know, I know.)

4. Demi has also been open about battling drug addiction and depression.

Lovato has stated that in the earlier years of her career, she battled with drug addiction to get her through the traumatic scheduling and daily pressures. She once said she “couldn’t go thirty minutes or an hour without cocaine, and [she] would bring it on airplanes." By 19, she found herself filling soda bottles with vodka and knew that enough was enough.

5. Demi will go toe-to-toe with anyone. Especially celebrities.

Aside from being a clapback queen of the internet, she also speaks up about anything and everything she deems wrong—whether it's about a fellow celebrity, and/or past BFFs. For instance, there was that time she challenged Taylor Swift to put her money where her mouth is, after she donated $250k to Kesha for her domestic abuse legal troubles. "Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I'll be impressed," she tweeted. "At least I speak up about sh*t that's uncomfortable to talk about rather than trying to be politically correct 24/7," she later commented on Instagram. Then, there's that time she went off on the Mariah Carey and didn't shy away from the "what's good" Nicki Minaj. Just, yes. #Badass.

6. Demi used to be bullied and has been vocal about that (too).

"I had a really tough time when I was in middle school," Lovato told People. "People would write 'hate petitions' [about me] and send them around to be signed. They'd have CD-bashing parties of my demos. They'd come to my house, stand across the street and yell things. It was a very emotional time for me, and all I wanted to do was get away." Watch her talk about her bullying experiences below.

7. Her platonic relationship with Nick Jonas is #relationshipgoals.

Nick Jonas and Demi are so close, in fact, that Nick's own brother Joe Jonas has taken a backseat a time or two— and both of them broke up in 2010. Nick helped Demi write a song about him at the height of their relationship called "Gonna Get It." So basically, she's their sister without marriage...or even a romantic relationship. “It's tough to stay friends with people who are in the industry over this much time. But they are two of the closest,” Joe Jonas said to Billboard. “You'd think they're siblings, sometimes more than Nick and I. They pick on each other, they play games ... Demi’s a great listener, and she keeps Nick smiling — she’ll always make a serious situation laughable. So, they’ve found great support with one another and they lean on each other creatively.” Knowing that the Jonas Brothers were there with her during one of her most trying times emotionally, it only makes sense. And it's proof that she's definitely not crying over not being part of Taylor's girl squad...

8. Demi has 15 tattoos, most of which mean something personal.

Yup, that says 15 tattoos! Two - on her wrists - signify positive thoughts, as a reminder to love yourself. Some are hidden. Some are crosses. Some are cover-ups from horrible ideas as a younging (such as the now-covered lips of a friend, seen in the collage below), and some are dedicated to her family and her struggles.

9. Last but not least, her favorite movie is Donnie Darko.

And if you know anything about Donnie Darko, you know that everyone who declares it as their favorite movie is a badass, introspective, creative, mysterious weirdo.
