Beyonce's fanbase has always been loyal to a fault, but have they gone too far this time?
On Saturday night, Beyonce had a little accident during her set at the Tidal X: 1015 concert in Brooklyn. She'd just finished performing her first song when her earring seemingly got caught in her long braid, and was ripped from her ear. As photos and fan videos have shown, Bey continued performing as if nothing had happened, even while her ear continued to bleed.
It's the kind of unbelievable drive and professionalism that Beyonce is known (and loved) for, but fans may have landed on an unhealthy way to show their admiration for the pop icon following her on-stage injury.
Consequence of Sound reports that, in a disturbing show of solidarity, a number of fans have started using the hashtag #CutForBeyonce; some have even posted graphic photos of themselves bleeding, while others talked about cutting. It's hard to tell if the photos are real or not, but let's hope it isn't; something tells me this isn't what Bey meant when she told sang about getting in formation.
Many on social media have voiced their disapproval for the trend, calling it stupid and disrespectful.
Yahoo News reports that the "CutForBeyonce" hashtag has actually been around for years, and was used in the past after the singer was passed up for an award her fans felt she deserved to win. Let's hope this is all just a massive case of trolling, and no one is actually maiming themselves in the name of Beyonce.
