Celebrities seem to have it all but beneath the glitzy surface they’re human like rest of us. Selena Gomez revealed this week that she’s fighting lupus and under her bubbly exterior, she’s secretly suffering. “I was diagnosed with [autoimmune disease] lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke.” Selena is one of many stars battling illnesses, often hidden from the public.

Sarah Hyland is a scene-stealer on Modern Family as the young and beautiful Haley Dunphy. Few viewers noticed that she was affected by kidney dysplasia. Her character had to sit down or lean in scenes, otherwise it was too taxing on her body. At the age of 21, Sarah underwent a kidney transplant with her father as a donor.
3. Noah "40" Shebib
Fans of Drake know Noah “40” Shebib. The Toronto producer and former child actor (his credits include the cult favorite The Virgin Suicides) has been Drake’s right-hand for years and crucial to his success. At the age of 22, Noah spent his birthday in the hospital and was suddenly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Although the disease can tire him out, 40 continues to put in grueling hours in the studio and on tour to create the Drake songs we love.
4. Bella Hadid
Bella Hadid lit the runways during New York Fashion Week this season. Along with her sister, Gigi, the 18-year-old is H-O-T. This week, Bella’s mother revealed that the supermodel (who happens to date The Weeknd) was diagnosed with Lyme disease two years ago.
5. Catherine Zeta-Jones
Beautiful and talented, Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones felt terrible mood swings after her husband, actor Michael Douglas, battled throat cancer. She has been diagnosed with bipolar II disorder which can be triggered by stress.
6. Toni Braxton
Toni Braxton is very real about her struggle with lupus. As a singer, reality TV star and mom, the disease often debilitates her. "Some days I can't balance it all. I just have to lay in bed," she’s said. "Pretty much when you have lupus you feel like you have the flu every day. But some days you get through it. But for me, if I'm not feeling well, I tend to tell my kids, 'Oh mommy's just going to relax in bed today. I kind of take it easy."
