Demi Lovato Giggled About Zika, Then Apologized For Insensitivity
Turns out, Zika isn't funny.
The dangers of social media are plentiful. When you decide to post every aspect of your life out in public, some of your less than shining moments will be broadcast to the world. Take, for example, Demi Lovato, who was caught on Snapchat laughing about the Zika virus, leading to a social media apology.
Lovato was Snapchatting a convo with her mama when an offhanded comment about the virus put Demi into a fit of giggles. “Everybody down in Rio gonna get the Zika virus,” said Dianna Hart over the the app, with Demi chuckling in the background. The Snapchat was re-broadcast over Instagram:
The incident sparked a trending hashtag on twitter, with many calling out the singer for her insensitivity and others rushing in to defend her. #DemiLovatoIsOver party quickly descended into madness:
Either way, Demi issued an official apology:
Kind of a weird backhanded apology, huh?
Anyway, maybe we should just all stay off the internet forever.
