Really, dude? Super producer Timbaland is coming under fire for his refusal to perform at a charity benefit forr esidents of Flint, Michigan, after the promoters failed to supply him with his preferred brand of champagne.
The New York Daily News reports that when Timbaland was served Dom Perignon instead of "Ace of Spades" champagne, he refused to perform. Management claims they had to strongarm him into finally getting up on stage after 1 a.m., where he "just stood there" and nodded his head to the beat of another DJ's performance. And to make matters worse, his management failed to tip anyone at all.
"They had about 15 bottles of liquor and champagne, which is extremely excessive especially for a charity event," Club Bleu co-owner Mitchell Jaworski told the New York Daily News. "They seemed more concerned about getting every drop of liquor."
Despite Timbaland's supposed diva-like behavior, the show was still a success, raising $3,000 to buy bottled water and filters for Flint residents, Jaworski said.
Meanwhile, Timbaland has been firing back at Jaworski and denying the claims.
Luckily, his reps also released an official statement to Billboard- this one with punctuation.
"Unfortunately the statement made by the promoter in Detroit is simply not true. Timbaland is an extremely generous person who agreed to a much lower fee for this event to raise money for the Flint, Michigan water crisis. The promoter was fully aware that this was not a full band performance on stage, yet still promoted it as such," the statement read. "The club was still able to raise money for charity, which was our goal in doing this event all along."
