At this point, it’s hard to be surprised by anything Donald Trump says, but at times it feels like he’s parodying himself. During the debate on Monday, Hillary Clinton brought up Trump’s terrible record of insulting women, to which he spouted some weird insult about Rosie O’Donnell. She also mentioned Alicia Machado, a Miss Universe winner who Trump used to call “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping” because she’s latina and gained weight. Machado has spoken out about what a terrible person Trump is, and how the experience precipitated her eating disorder. Then, the morning after the debate, Trump called in to Fox and Friends and doubled-down, saying Machado had gained a lot of weight and so...it was okay to call her names, I guess is his logic?
In a recently unearthed interview from 2013, Trump’s compulsive need to say that women are fat proves to be longstanding. In the clip, a reporter asks Trump about Kim Kardashian registering for gifts for her baby shower. As a fellow rich person, perhaps he has some perspective on whether or not it’s appropriate to have your friends buy you stuff when you could afford a private island.
Trump says it’s totally fine, but then decides to call Kim Kardashian fat for no reason whatsoever. He says, “She's gotten a little bit large. I would say this, I don't think you should dress like you weigh 120 pounds."
Okay, nobody is surprised you would say that, but that’s also not what you were asked. Kim Kardashian, who was PREGNANT at the time, can dress however the hell she wants. What does a 120-pound woman dress like, anyway? Well, we’ll see if he goes on a talk show tomorrow to insist that Kim had a big stomach when she was growing a child inside her.
