Drake presented his longtime crush/maybe on-and-off again girlfriend Rihanna with the Video Vanguard Award during the VMAs last night. The rapper touchingly recounted how he first met Rih in 2005 at a diner where she was shooting the video for "Pon De Replay" before openly gushing about the amazingness that is Rihanna.
"What's most impressive isn't the endlessness of stats, awards and accomplishments – what's most impressive is the person," Drake said. "She succeeds by being something in which no one in this industry does which is by being herself – the same girl from Barbados surrounded by the same friends. We love the videos which change their artistic vision from year to year. But most of all we love the woman who hasn't changed from day one."
Sweet, right? But what really got everyone talking was Drake's not-so-shocking confession.
"She's someone I've been in love with since I was 22 years old," he said at one point. "She's one of my best friends in the world. She's a living breathing legend in our industry."
And there was kissing! We can't forget the (somewhat awkward, tbh) on-stage kissing.
And because he didn't gush enough on stage, Drake later posted this super sweet pic and caption on Instagram.
So are they finally officially together now? Can we all start using #AubRih and bask in their collective adorableness? If you needed anymore proof that Drake is a man in love, just look at the billboard he rented out in L.A. prior to the VMAs, solely to congratulate Rih on her win.
