Get A First Look At Harry Potter Prequel, 'Fantastic Beasts'

The new movie will take place in New York, 70 years before the Harry Potter books.

The books and movies may have ended, but it's still a good time be a Harry Potter fan: J.K. Rowling is releasing a steady stream of new tidbits of information via social media, and now Potterheads have got a new feature film to look forward to: Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

The upcoming film is based on the mock-Hogwarts textbook Rowling released back in 2001, and will center around its author, Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) and his adventures studying magical creatures. Viewers shouldn't expect another glimpse of Howarts though: Fantastic Beasts takes place in New York 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter books.

Rowling wrote the screenplay, and David Yates (who directed Potter films 1 through 4) will direct. The film is slated for a winter 2016 release, and is the first in a proposed trilogy.

Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive first peek at Fantastic Beasts, and it's more than enough to get any Potter fan pumped up: just see for yourself
