Ice Cube Cast As Scrooge In Modern Adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol'
Word is he's snagging $10 million for the role. He'd have to say it was a good day.
A Christmas Carol is about to get a contemporary makeover. Deadline reports that the latest remake of the Charles Dickens classic will star Ice Cube as a wealthy real estate mogul who finds himself visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.
After a hefty bidding war between three other studios (including Disney), Universal Pictures won the rights to the script. The film will be called Humbug, and though there's no official release date set yet, a Christmas release is expected.
Tim Story is slated to direct. This won't be Cube's first time working with Story - he previously teamed up with the director for 2002's Barbershop, as well as for the recent Ride Along movies.
Word is, Cube stands to make a cool $10 million for the role, which just goes to show that transforming himself from gangster-rapping greatness to family-friendly leading man has definitely been a lucrative career move.
