Jay-Z and Beyonce have opened up about their personal struggles as a married couple on their albums, 444 and Lemonade. The rapper revealed that while many couples throw in the towel when at odds and get a divorce, they made the effort to stay. He tells The New York Times why he and Beyonce chose not to get a divorce: "You know, most people walk away, and like divorce rate is like 50 percent or something ’cause most people can’t see themselves," he said. Despite rumors of an impending divorce, the 47-year-old rapper said that he and Beyonce chose to look inward and work on their marriage. "Most people don't want to do that. You don't want to look inside yourself."
In the interview, the Roc Nation head reveals that the superstars had a hard time hearing each other's music, especially touching upon painful topics like his infidelity, trust and heartache. Songs like "Sandcastles" give a rare glimpse into the private couple's life.
"And it was uncomfortable. And we had a lot of conversations." He underscores their mutual respect for each other professionally," he said. "You know. [I was] really proud of the music she made, and she was really proud of the art I released. And, you know, at the end of the day we really have a healthy respect for one another's craft.
