Kanye West disappointed a lot of fans when he showed up at Trump Tower to shake hands with Donald Trump in front of the cameras. While some us may be hoping this is a long con to get booked at the Inaugural Ball (so he can trash Trump on his big night), it doesn’t look like that’s the case. West returned to Twitter to tell us all that he and Trump were meeting about “multi-cultural” issues and even shared a signed magazine from the Donald. In silver sharpie, as he likes to do.
At least one of West’s friends is willing to say that this whole situation is f*cked up and bullsh*t. John Legend was interviewed by French publication, Clique, and he didn’t mince words. When the interviewer asks Legend if it’s possible to meet with Trump to try and get him to hear your perspective on real issues, Legend agrees it’s possible, but what West did was a photo op, and he’d never let himself get dragged into that.
He says, “I’m pretty disappointed with Kanye that he says he would have voted for Trump. I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country. I think the things he’s promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people, and for Kanye to support that message is very disappointing.”
The interviewer asks, in a very French way, “Do you think he had other things on his mind?” to which Legend responds, “Whatever’s in his mind, I disagree with it.”
That’d be a good burn if the situation wasn’t so sad and weird. If only Kanye West was keeping his real friends closer.
