Kanye's Breakdown May Have Been Triggered By The Anniversary Of His Mom's Death

Sources close to the rapper say that he never allowed himself to properly grieve the loss of his mother.

Kanye West is still in the hospital after suffering what sources have called a "nervous breakdown" last week, and those close to him are saying they may know what triggered it.

According to TMZ's anonymous insiders, the anniversary of his mother's death played a large role in his declining mental health. Kanye's mother Donda, with whom he was very close, died in 2007. Her funeral was held on November 20, the same day Kanye cancelled a show in L.A. The next day, he cancelled the remainder of his tour dates before suffering a breakdown mere hours later.

Sources close to Kanye say that he never properly grieved following the death of his mother, and that Novembers are always a struggle for him. This year, in the weeks leading up to his breakdown, he'd already been dealing with so much — extreme lack of sleep, stress related to constant touring, and trying to support his wife Kim after she was robbed at gunpoint — that it all became too much for him. He suffered a meltdown last week and was taken to the UCLA Medical Center for treatment, and currently, there's no set discharge date.
