Mariah Carey has reportedly undergone weight loss surgery.
According to Page Six, the singer had gastric sleeve surgery six weeks ago, spurred on by growing insecurities and negative comments from online body shamers.
Said Six's source, "Mariah has always been proud of her curves, but this summer, as her Caesars Palace residency came to a close, and then she went on tour with Lionel Richie, she noticed it became harder to dance, and she was getting a lot more criticism online from body shamers."
Carey reportedly chose a surgeon in Beverly Hills, California to perform the procedure, which entails removing part of the stomach so that the patient feels full after eating less food; recovery time is said to be pretty short, and according to Entertainment Tonight, Carey is already feeling "much better about herself."
Earlier this week, the singer made headlines after one of her former security guards threatened to sue her for sexual harassment. The lawsuit is currently on hold, presumably while all parties involved can work to reach a settlement.
