Miley Cyrus' Homeless Friend Is Hawking Their Shared VMA Award
EBay has ruined many friendships.
In 2014, Miley Cyrus brought a homeless guy to the Video Music Awards to bring awareness to the huge homeless population of Los Angeles, and also to make all the rich people uncomfortable. Jesse Helt was definitely one of the cutest homeless guys available for the gig. Helt accepted Cyrus’ award for Best Video (it was that one where she swings naked on a wrecking ball, if you don’t remember). He gave a speech about runaways and talked about shelters and the difficulties facing young people, particularly in California. Miley was raising money to support homeless youth, so he directed people to her website, and that was that.
No one knows exactly what Miley’s relationship with Helt was after that, but he apparently got to keep the VMA Moonman trophy, which is inscribed with both their names. TMZ is reporting that he is saying goodbye to the memories and auctioning the thing on EBay. Bidding starts at $10,000, but you can Buy It Now for $15,000, so if it’s something you’re seriously considering, that might be the more frugal option.
They’re also saying he’s not homeless anymore, and is expecting a baby. May the Moonman finance your dreams, Jesse Helt.
