Naya Rivera Revealed She Had An Abortion While Working On 'Glee'
And she's not sorry.
Naya Rivera’s new memoir is coming out, and I know what you’re thinking—what the hell does a 29-year-old have to reflect on? Rivera, however, has lived a lot. She starred on Glee, had crazy back and forth relationship with her current husband Ryan Dorsey, and even managed to squeeze in a brief relationship with Big Sean. She also loves stirring gossip, and her memoir is bound to be a pretty exciting tell-all.
One of the first details from Sorry Not Sorry that she released is the story of how she became pregnant with Ryan Dorsey’s child sometime during her time on Glee. She decided to have an abortion, and went without him to have the procedure done on one of her days off from shooting. Then she went back to work. This lady is tough as nails.
Rivera spoke with People about the revelation, saying she knows some fans will be upset, but she wants to destigmatize abortion and make it understood that for many women it’s just a necessary choice they may need to make at some point. She says, "It was very scary to open up about everything...It's not something a lot of people talk about, but I think they should. I know some people might read it and say, 'What the Hell?' But I hope someone out there gets something out of it."
Whatever you think of it, Dorsey and Rivera are clearly at peace with Rivera’s decision. They’re now married with an 11 month-old baby. She also seems pretty chill with ignoring other people’s opinions, writing on Twitter, “I set out to write a book that was true to myself and would hopefully help others along the way. Media will always distort anything...I hope that you all enjoy my story and respect my good intentions in sharing them with you. Xoxo #sorrynotsorry.”
Sorry, she’s not sorry.
