Paul Ryan's Ideal Pic Of The Future Of American Politics Is Super White, Apparently
"Smile for this rad selfie!" he probably said as he snapped what would become the whitest Instagram photo ever.
Paul Ryan, your suburban childhood neighbor's vaguely attractive dad who tried way hard to be cool but definitely had an anger problem and then somehow wound up as Speaker of the House of Representatives, wanted to show off the ambitious group of young interns on Capitol Hill. "Smile for this rad selfie!" he probably said as he snapped what would become the whitest Instagram photo ever taken:
Of course, Paul Ryan, being one of the whitest people on the planet, did not notice how incredibly white this picture of future politicians actually is. And that, in some weird pithy way, sums up so many of the problems with America today.
AOL notes: "[T]he photo reflects the very white reality of Capitol Hill: A study released by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies in December 2015 found that people of color made up just 7.1% of senior Senate staff, whereas they comprise 36% of the larger U.S. population ... A number of initiatives exist to attract a diverse intern base, but as this photo suggests, government has a long way to go before its members look like the people they represent."
Despite widespread criticism from all corners of the internet, the picture still remains in tact on Ryan's account, even as it continues to attract scrutiny from over 5,000 commenters.
