Prince Harry Wants Everyone To Stop Being Racist Toward His Biracial Girlfriend
The prince has been dating American actress Meghan Markle for months and says that he fears for her safety.
Prince Harry has a new girlfriend, and he's determined to protect her however he can from the backlash that comes with dating a member of the royal family.
Harry and American actress Meghan Markle supposedly met earlier this year when the prince visited Toronto to promote the Invictus Games. Markle stars on USA Network's Suits, which is filmed in Toronto.
Rumors of a love connection began to float around last month. The news was confirmed when Harry's camp released a statement on Tuesday expressing Harry's dismay at the treatment his lady love has received, saying Markle has been "subject to a wave of abuse and harassment."
"Some of this has been very public - the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments," reads the statement.
"Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle's safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm," it continues.
Harry's camp went on to say that Markle has had to deal with reporters and photographers trying to gain illegal entry into her home, and everyone in her life - from her mother to her ex boyfriend - has been bombarded with unwanted attention.
"He knows commentators will say this is 'the price she has to pay' and that 'this is all part of the game,'" the statement reads. "He strongly disagrees. This is not a game - it is her life and his."
