Being a celebrity isn't all about high-profile feuds and slaying on social media. Remy Ma plans to use her influence for good, The Huffington Post reports. The rapper hopes to start a fund to help women who want to have a child but are struggling to conceive.
In an interview with Essence, Remy opened up about the miscarriage she suffered following an ectopic pregnancy at the beginning of the year; she had to endure emergency surgery, and later learned that she wouldn't be able to have any more children the natural way.
"First I was distraught, I was embarrassed, I was ashamed, I felt less than a woman and [the doctor] assured me that was no way to feel and that for a certain amount of thousands of dollars, it can be fixed," she said. "And because I have the finances, I never even thought twice about it."
Remy wants other women to have the same options that she does, she later explained.
"I'm trying to start my own fund right now, so that women who are like me, or have a similar situation to me, but they can't afford it, could possibly get these procedures done and have children, because as a woman, that's one of the things that you can do that no other being can do," she explained.
The rapper also delivered a message to politicians, urging them to take action.
"It's just weird to me that if you want to terminate a pregnancy, you could use your health insurance; however, if you wanted to conceive, health insurance doesn't cover that," she pointed out. "So I'm looking at all of these politicians that claim that they're pro-life and they want to eradicate women having the choice to terminate their pregnancies, but if you're pro-life, why would you not set up something so women who can't conceive and women who want to be mothers can do so."
