Ronda Rousey Contemplated Suicide After Loss To Holly Holm
Ronda credits her boyfriend with inspiring her to keep on living.
It was the kick heard 'round the world. At UFC 193 last year, Ronda Rousey was set to defend her title as the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion for the third year in a row. Though Ronda was the favorite to win, Holly Holm took her down with a brutal kick to the head early in the second round. It was the first loss Ronda ever suffered in her MMA career.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ronda opened up about that devastating loss, revealing that it drove her to contemplate suicide.
"In the medical room, I was sitting down in the corner, and I was like 'What am I anymore if I'm not this?'" Ronda said, choking back tears. "And I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself and in that exact second, I'm like, 'I'm nothing.' I'm like, 'What am I gonna do anymore? No one gives a s**t about me anymore without this.'"
It was her relationship with her boyfriend UFC heavyweight Travis Browne that inspired her to crawl out of that dark place.
"To be honest, I looked up and saw my man, Travis, was standing there," Ronda continued. "And I looked up at him and I was like, 'I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive.' That was like - really, that was it."
