UPDATE: Sinead O'Connor found safe, according to CNN.
Sinead O'Connor is missing. Police in Wilmette, a suburb of Chicago, are searching for the 49-year-old singer after she went for a bike ride.
According to BBC, Wilmette Police "are seeking to check the well-being" of the singer according to a brief press release. Authorities were called after O'Connor "left the Wilmette area" for a bicycle ride at 6:00am on Sunday and had not returned after more than a day.
USA Today has added that the controversial singer has claimed to be suicidal, and has received mental health treatment for it. This past November, she posted what appeared to be a suicide threat on Facebook, saying that she had taken an overdose because of a “horrifying set of betrayals.” “There is only so much any woman can be expected to bear,” she said. “I’ve taken an overdose. There is no other way to get respect.”
Fans and celebrities have expressed concern on social media. "Hoping for Sinead O'Connor's safe return. The demons she battles are no joke," tweeted singer Josh Groban.
